Instead of Richmond park and scary noises and sleeping bags and fresh air and trees and animals and bugs and dewy faces and sunrise…I find myself in front of this big screen, second big screen blazing behind me.

big, flat, exciting world. exciting world?

“Dont do this to me”, my mistress whispers.

Guilty of some invisible crime, I try and shield the computer screen from little brother’s eyes.

Guilty of not sitting down patiently with him to help with art homework, when he asks, he pleads with some invisible creative force as to why he can’t draw or why it is that he doesn’t want to just draw…

“what else is there? what else can I use to make this paper look like the Himalayas? what else is there apart from pencil?”

I give him five, maybe ten minutes of my time. I explain water soluble colors

“Love me, nurture me, help me, pass on what you were given!”

I storm back in, furious at the audacity of this demanding teenager;

“I’M BUSY. I HAVE A VERY BUSY LIFE. I HAVE NO TIME FOR MYSELF. COME BACK TO ME WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND.”

In the living room, the two screens flicker at each other in wicked conversation, I settle myself calmly between the two.

“I knew you would”.
